New studio, new work

It’s been a while since my last update here….I have been posting a whole lot on my regular myspace profile about all sorts o things, including art.

So I am moved-into Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco Mexico. My father’s birthplace. I live on a beautiful and noisy area.

Don Cruz, is an old man that has been working for my grandpa for a while and he is also a very good carpenter. I commissioned a series o panels and frames for my next set of paintings.

So, I started to make a series of paintings called “Cocoons”, which I translated into Capullos in Spanish.

They are the adventure of my sketching, the forms that usually emerge from my spontaneity: biomorphic, abstarct shapes that remid one of fruit, feminine anatomy, an flowers…sort of like O’keefe, but more into my style.

Here is an example of previous work I have done with this shape before

So I became interested in participating in various contests around Mexico, including the Jose Atanasio Monroy painting contest and the Salon de Ocutbre contest. I also found out about another printmaking contest while visiting the Ex Convento del Carmen, one of the cultural houses here in Guadalajara. I also got to meet the director, who happened to be a friend of my father’s.

So the set and theme of my work continues to go into a deeper exploration of these biomorphic shapes in different sizes, colors, etc.

Here is a series of progress pictures. The end result is the end.

Don Cruz was also very kind to build this fancy easel for me …it is a great design.

Painting 2’s final stage is still missing in my photos, but will take photos of it today, when I deliver the next painting.
